WHAT IS CBD?

CBD stands for cannabidiol, which is a chemical compound found in the hemp plant. CBD is a naturally occurring substance and hemp’s largest component. Unlike its cousin delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) - the major active ingredient in marijuana - CBD is not psychoactive. CBD is used in everything from oils and balms to chews and peanut butter and may have beneficial properties and calming effects.

Hemp vs Marijuana

Hemp and marijuana are the same species, but are plants with different levels of THC. Hemp, by law, has less than 0.3% THC. Because of the trace amounts of THC, CBD does not have any psychoactive properties. All of the products on our site are CBD based and adhere to this standard.

Full Spectrum vs Isolate

Full spectrum CBD refers to the pure oil extraction process from the hemp plant. It includes all the beneficial cannabinoids, terpenes, essential vitamins, proteins and fatty acids of the plant. When all the components found in CBD are present and working synergistically, it creates the entourage effect, which can enhance the response to CBD.

CBD isolate has been refined to include only the CBD compound without any additional cannabinoids or terpenes. It is derived from the hemp plant, but all other matter has been removed.

POSSIBLE CBD USES

CBD may help with the following:

Anxiety
Over excitement
Maintaining normal cognitive function
Emotional balance
Immune function
Healthy inflammatory response
Maintain a healthy intestinal tract
Discomfort
Skin and GI tract health

Things to look for when choosing CBD.

Look for where it’s made and sourced.

It’s important to know the source of the ingredients. The best companies buy their plants directly from the farmers and the relationship between them is crucial. Think of it like a great restaurant and how they buy fresh ingredients - the best CBD companies buy their plants directly from the farmers. Both Super Snouts and Pet Releaf use organic farms that do not use any GMO’s, pesticides or herbicides. The largest supplier of CBD isolate is from China and many of the companies are suspect.

What’s the extraction method?

The method by which cannabinoids are extracted from the hemp is key. Butane/Ethanol extraction? No Bueno. It can leave behind toxic substances in your pet’s CBD oil. Look for CO2 extraction, which leaves nothing bad behind.

Testing, attention please.

Only buy from companies that produce testing results of each batch of product. And make sure the testing comes from a reliable third-party company. This is vitally important as many companies have less CBD in their product than they claim.

Read the labels.

Another shopping note - don’t mistake hemp seed oil for CBD. The seed itself does not have the same compounds as the fully grown hemp plant and has different cannabinoids for different health benefits. And as always, organic is better (no pesticides or scary chemicals you can’t pronounce).
